VOLUNTEER AT SOUTH SIDE ROOTS
There are many different ways to engage with South Side Roots as a volunteer: as our community faces the impact of COVID-19, volunteer efforts have shifted to safeguard the health and wellness of our volunteers, customers, and staff. Although there is no risk-free way to be out and about during this pandemic, our friends at POINT put together this flow chart to help volunteers make decisions about safely attending shifts:
Below are the roles available to volunteers and all roles could be providing support to all areas of the operation:
- Pre-Packaged Meal Service – Assist with pre-bagging and distributing the carryout meals with each meal component and any additional resources provided by our community partners.
- Community Meal Server – The community meal is a come one, come all family-style dinner that is free to our community, held every Tuesday. Duties of this volunteer position include serving guests their grab-and-go dinner in a friendly manner, engaging with the community members to ensure an overall gratifying experience, minor cleaning duties, and assisting the kitchen team with cleaning and closing the kitchen including washing dishes, cleaning floors, etc.
*All volunteers must be at least 13 years of age, if not they will have to be assisted by a parent or guardian*
